A SHOEBOX WORTH HOLDING ON TO
PATENTED: 01.17.14 / UTILITY PATENT (PENDING)
U.S. Design Patent: D704,545
U.S. Utility Patent Application: 14337893

Simple, yet significant. Stand, stack, slide, carry (all while eliminating the need for a retail bag) - it's that simple. No other shoebox design on the current market can do so much, with so little. I didn't invent the handle, the shoebox, the matchbox, or geometry - I'm simply combining these ingredients like a Michelin three star restaurant chef and serving up something new for the shoe industry
to potentially embrace. The overall goal of this shoebox design: to eliminate
the retail bag for single pair transactions and create a packaging solution people will actually keep and re-use as a storage system in their home, especially if you are a shoe collector like myself.
This packaging also works great for launch kits, PR efforts, and retail design with an emphasis on form, duality and materiality (if cost and the amount of material is a concern to mass produce). Packaging designed for shoe collectors, by a shoe collector. Plastic retail bags are currently banned in states like Oregon and California.

___

This design is now patented via the U.S. patent offices (protected by lasers, ninjas, tigers and both a design and provisional utility patent for the "handled storage device"), yadda yadda, and enforces said rights to the utmost extreme.
With that said, download a PDF copy of the design (coming soon).

It's "business-as-usual" for the unloved and tired traditional shoebox which has been around for decades. Your average shoebox cost about 25 cents to mass produce and is meant to be thrown away. Here's a better idea, why not keep it? Better yet, re-use it, for decades. Other shoeboxes have tried - I believe I have developed a design that will stand the test of time that is both incredibly versatile and functional. Speaking of time, my shoebox also came out NINE years before Puma's "clever little bag" (that eliminates the need for a retail bag), originally created as student work circa 2000 (by me). The challenge / goal is to update this packaging solution for the year 2014 and beyond using materiality and a more refined design approach and release it into the wild like a king cheetah.

___________
The dream would be to utilize patented Matchbox shoe packaging for icons of the shoe industry like the Jordan Brand. This system was
designed for shoe collectors by a shoe collector. Would also work great for limited and special-edition shoes and launch kits. Can't "justify"
the additional packaging costs? Sell them. Yes, sell "collector shoeboxes and packaging" - I get quite a few emails asking to already buy
this work. People want "flashy collector packaging" for their kicks collection. I'm not trying to re-invent the wheel, the wheel works fine -
just infuse some innovation into shoebox design.

Like a great shoe, Matchbox packaging is about aggressive and innovative design meets materiality. Matchbox is designed to stack
and stand in almost any orientation and eliminate the need for a retail bag for single pair transactions (also great for PR and launch kits).

Hello Sweden, Hello IKEA - great for storing meatballs (and shoes)! A champion of organization and efficiency, the "Matchbox"
system does it all (it even floats if made out of foam). I'll be in touch Mr. Mikael Ohlsson... One of the main features of this packaging
is that it can be re-used as a home storage device, the more shoeboxes you acquire, the move storage you possess
(or at least that's the way I see it) all while eliminating the retail bag and keeping landfills less filled.

their innovative products and stand out in a crowded retail space or create hype for a new technology.

Beautiful - sharp, raw, minimal yet aggressive //
This design draws inspiration from the following sources: modern architecture,
handled military ammo cases, surveillance cameras, a sliding matchbox, knives/blades/daggers, and luxury sportscars/boats. I'm working
on a super sleek and modern streamlined version made completely out of carbon fiber (super light weight, strong and minimal) for high-end
soccer shoes like the Nike Mercurial or the Adidas F-50. Speaking of Adidas...

But Chris, I am a skeptic, if you came up with this idea back in 2000
like you said you did - why didn't you patent this idea sooner!?! It's been over 10 years dude! Puma came out with a shoebox that is very similar to yours. Yes, true, but they came out with their "clever little bag" around 2009, my idea was created in 2000 (before facebook, while the internet was still on training wheels) and I believe my idea is simply better, more versatile and functional than theirs.

My answer to skeptics: Rome wasn't built in a day. This isn't the hyperloop, it's a shoebox and the only thing keeping it from getting made is the increased cost of a few pennies per box and my lack of influential connections. I've been fortunate enough to work directly for Nike and Adidas on a high level in the last few years and I didn't understand the value and significance of this design, nor the industry I was designing this for - until now. I believe 1,000% in this idea and the potential for great packaging, great launch kits, great retail design and have worked very, very hard to post this idea online, today, now. It is my personal belief that there simply isn't a better shoebox on the current market that can do so much with so little - stand, stack, slide, carry all while eliminating the need for a retail bag (saving both time and the environment). Not to mention the potential for amazing retail displays and graphics using mere packaging alone. I've worked on launch kits for Microsoft and retail design for major shoe manufacturers and have yet to see a solution so simple that solves for so many issues. Thanks to modern technology and 3D printing I could have physical prototypes in less than a week, if interested in a demo. Thank you for your time and interest.

Join me in this adventure. If you can help me arrange a meeting and sell this idea to any major shoe manufacturer,
I will give you 20% of any total profits I make for simply helping arrange the meeting, that's it.
Literally, you don't have to be my friend, you don't have to like me or my idea. Help my dream come true (by getting this shoebox manufactured for official use by the masses and global market) and I will sign an official legal document giving you 20% of whatever terms we agree on. This could be as simple as a designer forwarding my link to a client contact, if it leads to something - send me the original email. This offer is valid to anyone out there - from a janitor at Reebok to Michael Jordan himself. Be warned, there will be lawyers involved if we reach that stage, but I promise to make this transaction incredibly smooth. If I get paid, you will get paid. I came very close, it did not work out like I thought it would. Crazy, not possible!? Until it does and blows your mind...
